Following the success of the First World Pyro Olympics last year, our country plays host once again to the WPO, which kicked-off the event with a literal bang on Friday, January 5th. Participating countries include Australia and Poland (both of which participated in the opening night), the U.S.A. and Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom, Denmark and Canada, and the People's Republic of China. The Philippines, as the gracious host, is exempt from the competition but will participate in an exhibition display on the closing night on Saturday, January 13th.

There will be two fireworks displays daily by competing countries, while on the final eve of the event, the sky will be illuminated by the La Mancha Fellowship of Fire - a joint fireworks display from the nine countries and the organizer, La Mancha Pyro Productions.

Bossa Nova phenomenon Sitti Navarro, Nyko Maca, Brigada, and Chillitees seranded Ateneans last September 22, 2006 during Festa Bossa Nova at the Ateneo de Manila University. The event was truly an exciting night of fantastic music as well as fabulous performances by Escola Brasileira de Capoeira and Planet Zips. Rock n’ Roll fans were also appealed to as The Bloomfields and beatbox sensations Element #5, gave special guest performances. Completing the festa atmosphere were lots of freebies and games! Part of the proceeds went to the vaccination project of Rock Ed Philippines and the Jesuit Communications Foundation training programs.

Stars were everywhere as Dish in the ABS CBN Complex greeted the new year with a celebration of its self reinvention, re-naming itself Club O. The night was big hit as free flowing drinks and a very long table filled with house specialties greeted the guests. Club O being the metro’s premiere entertainment bar did not fail to deliver; guests were serenaded by musical talents such as Nyoy Volante, Top Suzara, Free Verse and the boys of Pinoy Dream Academy.

Kami nApo Muna is a compilation of the Apo Hiking Society’s classic songs sung by 18 of today’s hottest bands. Last August 29, Parokya ni Edgar, Imago, Itchyworms, Kamikazee, Moonstar 88, Orange and Lemons, Rocksteddy, Sandwich, Shamrock, Spongecola, Sugarfree, Boldstar, Drip, Sound, The Dawn, Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal and Top Suzara launched this album as a tribute to the great band who has been rocking the Philippines since the 70's until today.
